The 2003 Trip to Indianapolis |
||
| Day1 The Drive to Columbus | May 23, 2003 | |
| This was the first day of the annual trip to Indianapolis. The strategy for this trip was to take the drive easy, and enjoy the sights on the way. A winding drive up route 15 and over I70 landed us in Columbus, OH in the afternoon. We went down to the German Village in downtown Columbus to see what was down there. |

|
| Mandy had a blast at the Book Loft. It is one of the biggest bookstores that I have ever seen. It has 32 rooms of books, and covers an entire city block. |
|
There were also antique stores and other general pleasant touristy stuff in the German Village. Of course we also got some coffee in the German Village Starbucks. Columbus sure was Starbucks crazy. There seemed like there was one every half mile. :) |

After dinner we went over to The Ohio State campus to check out The Ohio Stadium. This was quite an impressive sight. The place looks more like a football shrine than a football stadium.
| There was a restaurant called Best Wings; Quaker Steak
and Lube across from our hotel. They were pretty good, but their
wings were not good at all. Not what I would expect from a place
that has Best Wings in their title. Click Here to see all of the pictures from this first day. |

| Day2 The Day Before the Race | May 24, 2003 | |
| On day 2 of the Indy trip we reached Indianapolis. We checked into our hotel room after a uneventful drive from Columbus and waited for the rest of the Burnetts (Rog, Thea, and Shelby from Michigan; Mom, Dad, and Shannon from Virginia) to arrive. Once everyone got there, we headed over to the trailer park across from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to visit Uncle Dave and Aunt Margie. As usual visiting the Kyles was a treat. Even fixing Uncle Dave's water hose was fun. One things that I can't believe when I look through these pictures is that I didn't get a picture of Aunt Margie. How can you drive a third of the way across the country to visit someone and then not take their picture when you get there? Hmm. I'll have to fix that next year. |

|
| Seeing the sights around the track was a highlight of the trip. The day before the race is just one huge party. Here Shannon, Thea, and Mandy are taking in the sights along the road across from the road. |

As the sun went down, the people got stranger and stranger. One of our favorite sights of the night was this guy taking his cooler for a walk.
